CHARAN PADUKA

After crossing the Banganga river within 2.5 km, devotees can visit charan paduka, where Vaishno Devi’s footprints were found.

The feet impression of Mata Vaishno Devi can be seen on a rock slab in this temple.

ADHKUWARI

After the journey of 6 km, devotees reach Adhkuwari, which means we have completed half of our yatra. In between, devotees can visit the bathing ghat.

The word Adhkuwari means “The Eternal Virgin.” When she was young, Vaishno Devi disappeared from the Bhandara organized by Pandit Shridhar. She halted at Banganga, charan paduka, and from there, she reached Adhkuwari.

The Ardhkuwari cave is in a small womb shape. It is believed that Mata Vaishno Devi meditated and stayed here for nine long months before beheading Bhairavnath. The exact spot where Mata meditated is at the right hand inside the cave.

As Mata Vaishno Devi meditated in a womb-shaped cave for nine months, this cave became famous by the name of Garbh Joon, which comes from the word Garbh Yoni means womb.

From Adhkuwari devotees can reach Vaishno Devi temple on 2 routes.

If Devotees choose a new way, after the completion of Mata darshan, they must go to Bhairo temple, which is nearly 2 km from Bhawan.

HISTORY OF VAISHNO DEVI TEMPLE:

Mother Goddess used all her powers to create a young and beautiful girl to spend her life on earth in righteousness. She was born to Ratnakarasagar and Samriddhi, as they were the devotees of Devis.

She was named Vaishnavi and used penance and meditation to increase her sphere of knowledge. Lord Rama, during exile, visited her. As soon as she recognized lord Rama, she asked him to allow her to merge into him.

But Lord Rama knew it was not the right time and prevented her. He told her that the appropriate time would finally come in Kaliyug when he (Rama) would be in his incarnation of ‘Kalki.’

Lord  Rama asked her to meditate at the Trikuta base to become a blessing for all humankind.

Saint Goraknath comes to know about Vaishnavi, and he sends Bhairo Nath to enquire about her. He was attracted by her beauty and decided to marry her.

As soon as Vaishnavi learned about Bhairo Nath’s thoughts, she left the ashram and went to the mountains.

He followed her to the mountains. She stayed at Banganga, charan paduka, and Adhkuwari,  after which she entered the cave.

When he continued to follow her, she took the form of kali and cut off his head. After death, he realized that the goddess was not any ordinary girl, and he begged for forgiveness.

As Mata forgave Bhairo Nath, she blessed him with a temple that would come up exactly where Bhairo Nath’s head fell.

It is believed that the devotees who want to complete the pilgrimage successfully have to go to the Darshan Bhairo Nath temple without fail. Then only the yatra will get completed.

According to my personal experience, to enjoy the mystical experience and the beauty of nature, one should visit the holy place from December to February as we can experience snowfall and the natural beauty of Vaishno  Devi temple.

But the cold climate conditions with sub-zero temperatures are difficult for kids and older adults. One should carry heavy woolen clothes, windcheaters, caps, gloves, umbrellas, raincoats, and shoes.

Blankets are available in Bhawan. The market is famous for dry fruits of the best quality apples, shawls, and sweaters.

STAY AT VAISHNO DEVI TEMPLE

Devotees can plan the yatra trip with family or friends for 2 to 3 days in hand. If it is less, the yatra will be a bit tiring. Devotees can spend one night on Katra.

If devotees choose to travel by trekking, a night of good sleep and rest is a must and should be done before starting the trek.

After the completion of trekking, devotees can go for Darshan and rest one night at Bawan and return. As the return yatra slopes downhill, devotees can finish it very quickly in less time when compared with uphill.

If devotees plan to complete the yatra by helicopter, then 1 to 2 days is enough. If devotees plan to complete the yatra by trekking, then 2 to 2.5 days should be OK with a roundtrip journey with trekking and darshan time.

Devotees can complete the yatra in different ways and be back to Katra from Vaishno Devi temple
